Letters Testamentary is a document the court provides after a Will has been admitted to probate and the executor has completed the steps to “qualify” for this position. This document or Letters of Administration is usually necessary to access bank accounts, talk to creditors, and sell property from an estate. This is not simply a letter written by an attorney, but is part of the probate process. The law requires an executor to be represented by an attorney.
