It depends. As a general rule, if you did not co-sign the debt or otherwise agree to be responsible for it, the creditor will only go after the estate of the person who owes the debt. Creditors may be able to go after heirs/beneficiaries if they take property from the estate before the debt is paid. This should always be discussed with an attorney to determine if you have any personal liability.
